Scholarship Information

SCHOLARSHIP STUFFThanks to everyone who has already enrolled to participate. It is not too late to join. Please pay your $10 participation fee this week. We have 3 confirmed adjudicators. Two are senior Australian Dance Assessment Program Assessors and Diane Grant who is a senior Dance Lecturer at the Australian College of Physical Education. She will be presenting the scholarship and will be telling us about the wonderful opportunities availabe for our dancers if they want to pursue a career in dance. We are very lucky to have her :-). All adjudicators are totally impartial and the teachers of the school have no say this year in who will win the scholarships. The scholarship will be run on stage at Dee Why RSL starting at 12.00. Please arrive by 11.30 to sign in and prepare. Bring jazz, tap and ballet shoes if you have them, or hard soled shoes if you don't have tap shoes. Mini-scholarship will be awarded to anyone, even if you have no tap, ballet or jazz experience. This will entitle the winner to a free class a week for 1/2 the year. The main Scholarship will go to a student who is already participating in 3 styles of dance including one technique class (this may be pilates, stretch, ballet or lyrical). This scholarship will entitle the winner to one free class a week for the year and a solo choreographed by the winners choice of teacher (the choreography alone is valued at $264 being for 4 x 1 hour privates). The scholarship candidates will dance grouped in similar age groups.

Demonstration Information

DEMONSTRATION STUFFHope you are all getting as excited as I am about our upcoming event next sunday the 23rd November at DY RSL Club. Please note that payment for fees and costumes must be made this week prior to collecting your costumes from your teachers. We will be having a dress rehersal in class time. Photos will be taken prior to the students dancing, on stage by a professional photographer. Coggo Audiovisual who have recorded our concert for many years now have also been booked to produce DVD/Videos for your memories. Please respect the laws and do not photograph or video your dancers on stage. Please note that DJAZZEX does not receive any commission from photographers or video professionals, but offer it a service for our parents. Please be ready to dance in your first outfit at the start of the performance you are involved in i.e. prepare at 9.00 for the juniors performance at 10.00 and prepare at 1.00 for seniors performance at 2.00 (these are suggested times). Leave all jewellery at home. No one is to eat or drink in their costume prior to dancing on stage and not at all in hire costumes. Don't chew gum on stage. One of the mums have very kindly offered to help with hair and make up for the juniors - (thanks so much Jennifer Priest), so if you are concerned about hair and make up see her side stage at 9.00. Please purchase your tickets during this week from your teachers. Limited tickets will be available on the day in case someone wants to join at the last minute, but we need a good idea of numbers prior to the event. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children. All hire costumes must be returned on the concert or the week immediately following. If you are not attending classes after the concert, please arrange for someone to drop them off for you. This is VERY important.

Concert update

Hello,
Last week notes went home about the upcoming concert and what the students will need to provide for themselves and what they will need to pay their teachers for their costumes. We have been working very hard to ensure that our costume costs are more than reasonable and trying to keep life simple for parents. Please assist us now by paying your costumes by next week so that we can hand out the costumes during class time.

Please note that all hire costumes MUST be returned on the class immediately after the concert (unless the teacher has arranged for them to be collected at the concert). If you are not planning on attending on the class immediately after the concert please arrange for them to be dropped off on that day so that costumes can be finalized. This is crucial as some costumes need to be returned to the hirer immediately after the concert.

Tickets are now available for purchase. You can buy these directly from your teacher, please pay cash or cheque for these - not electronic transfer.

If you have not paid for your scholarship entry and are wanting to do so, please do so this week. It is $10 for the entry fee.

So far, I have only had 3 or 4 people offer to help at the concert. The lists of helpers needed are up at the school venues for you to write down what you would be happy to help with. The teachers can do fill all the jobs required to ensure the day runs smoothly and we are always very greatful for any help. Helpers in the past have told me that they really enjoyed helping - if you have never done it, perhaps this will be a good year to try.

Happy preparations and see you at the concert if not sooner!

:-)

Demonstration ticket Prices

The tickets will also be on sale very soon and I have been asked several times about the costs. They will be $15 for adults and $8 for children/pensioners not performing. Every child who will occupy a seat who is not performing pays.

thanks Lisa P.
p.s. if you want to be invovled in the scholarship register now...It is $10 to cover costs.

Demonstration Update

Hello to all students (and their parents),

Please remember to add an extra $10 to your fees for the concert commitment or pay that by the end of this week if you haven't already done so. This fee enables us to cover extra costs involved and helps us to keep our ticket prices low for our guests.

We are getting very excited about our up coming performances and most of our classes are well into their preparations. It is a huge team effort and we really appreciate everyone turning up every week, even if they are sick (they can watch), as we finalize the dances. Everyone should receive an e-mail note this week about costume requirements that parents will have to organise -a more detailed note will be sent out in the next weeks, with items that the teachers are organizing to hire or buy. Please don't hesitate to email or call if you have questions.
With thanks for your co-operation and helping us to make this demonstration a happy experience,
Lisa P.

great Pilates DVD for sale

Do you want to do Pilates but can't make it to a class, I've sourced a great DVD which we will be selling through the school. The DVD will be $22 and offers 5 different pilates classes. This is great value, and presented by instructors with a great reputation in our pilates community.

September Class News

Hello,
Can't believe how quickly this year is going!! I hope you have all been having lots of fun in our dance and pilates classes. I just wanted to remind you that we offer you a great chance to make up for any missed classes. As most of our classes are preparing for the end of year concert on the 23rd November, I recommend that senior students make up missed classes by attending the adult classes, pilates matwork or stretch classes. These will offer you an opportunity to improve your technique, whilst still focussing on your dances in your normal classes. Allegro class students will need to notify me 24 hours in advance if they will not be attending if they don't want to lose their class, and then make up classes need to be booked in.

Happy Movement Hours in Term 3

Hello,
News - Welcome back to another term at DJAZZEX. Hope you all had a wonderful holiday. We are very excited to be able to use our new mirrors at Brookvale and the new heaters at Collaroy. Thanks to everyone who participated in our fund raiser and to Warringah Council for hearing our requests for better heating.
Discount Fees - Remember, that if you want to take advantage of our generous discounts you will need to pay your fees by the end of this week. Also, if you have been too cold to come to class or have been busy with other stuff, you can still make up the missed classes by trialing one of our other fun classes.
Dance Pants and x-overs - I have new dance pants and x-overs in stock if you still are in need of something to keep you warm whilst dancing. Don't pay any money but ask your teacher to bring the stock to your class so you can buy when you find what you want.
With thanks and wishing lots of happy movement hours in Term 3!

It was a huge success and yes we did raise over $600. But, the best part for me was the fun had by all. THANK YOU! :-)

Building fundraiser $$$ needed

I hope you are all enjoying the new airconditioning. I know I certainly am - it feels very special!! I have had a quote to have the floor sanded and resurfaced for $3,000!!! I am determined that this will happen sooner rather than later but I need your help. I am hoping to hold a fundraiser on Saturday the 31st May. We can wash cars, have a sausage sizzle, cake stall, face painting and talent competition. If you can donate something, prizes for the winners of the talent quest, cakes or your time in helping to make this a reality, please let me know.
Lisa P.

Uniform Update

I wanted to give you an update on the uniform situation. For those of you that don't know, our supplier told me that they won't be continuing with that side of their business so I have been forced to find a new supplier. This will mean some minor changes to our uniform style. If you have placed an order and don't want to buy our alternate uniform or you don't want to wait for them to be made (they will probably still take about 1 month from now) please let me know so that I can refund you the monies you have paid.

Great Dance websites from Lisa P.

I think www.ausdancensw.com.au is a great site because it is so informative about what is happening with dance in Sydney. I also love www.dancetrain.com.au because of the way it keeps us informed of up and coming auditions. When I first returned to Sydney after working as a dancer overseas I was amazed that the only way you could find out about auditions was if you had an agent. Also check out www.adv.org.au which is the website for the ballet dance syllabus that we teach at DJAZZEX. Lastly www.danceinforma.com is pretty cool too. Oh and don't forget about www.dancersworld.com because of the all the great dance related stuff you can buy.
Am loving the new space. I hope everyone else is too. It will just keep getting better and better now as we continue to improve it for our students. It will make a lovely home for us. Lisa P

At our new premises

We are in the middle of the first week of classes at our new premises in Brookvale - 11c/106 Old Pittwater Road - hopefully everyone is finding the location without too much trouble and so far the parking has also been excellent. For those who haven't been as yet djazzex is in the middle building in the complex, a red brick building labelled number 11 above the Innoxa factory outlet.

I am very excited about our new move, but most of all I am excited about being able to incorporate the amazingly powerful Pilates allegro program for our students. I can't wait to see the added strength and flexibility they will feel in their dancing. I hope you all enjoy the new space and have MANY happy and fruitful hours there. We will be bringing our suggestion box with us, so let me know if you feel something is missing, but remember it will take a while to make all our dreams a reality. Welcome to all new students and Collaroy and at North Manly/Brookvale. 2008 will be great!

We are moving!

All classes from 1st march 2008 will be held at our new venue in Brookvale. The address is Unit 11C, 106 Old Pittwater Road, Brookvale. How to get there - follow Old Pittwater Rd around past the back of Warringah Mall, number 106 is one of the industrial complexes and has a very large number out the front, go down the driveway and you will see large red signs indicating the unit numbers. To get to Unit 11 go left at the Innoxa factory signs.
